Dehumidifiers
FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions and Concerns
Do I need a dehumidifier?
Dehumidifiers are the best way to remove excess moisture from your home and avoid problems caused by high humidity. These problems include:
- Mold and musty smells
- Warm, humid and uncomfortable conditions
- Condensation on windows
- Twisted floorboards or damaged furniture
If you ignore these problems, allergic reactions, respiratory problems, and other health problems can occur. Avoid them by maintaining healthy humidity levels with a dehumidifier.
How do dehumidifiers work?
The whole operation of a dehumidifier is very simple. The dehumidifier draws in moist air and uses a condenser to remove the moisture from the air. The water that this process produces accumulates in a reservoir. The treated air, free of excess moisture, is returned to the surrounding environment by means of a fan.
Dehumidifiers are usually placed in problem areas such as basements, bathrooms and other areas with high humidity.
Why should a dehumidifier be left in place without operation before first use?
Because the refrigerant in the compressor can move during transport, if the compressor is started immediately, it will not operate properly. Even though the machine may run normally, the dehumidification efficiency will be low and the noise will be high. The dehumidifier should be left in place for a minimum of 6 hours to ensure that it will operate properly.
How does the laundry drying function work?
The machine runs at maximum fan speed and is set to continuous dehumidification. It is usually set to switch off automatically after a few hours.
What is the ideal humidity level for the living space?
The ideal humidity level for a home is 45-50%. Relative humidity above 50% can create an environment where mold spores, dust mites, bacteria and even harmful pests can thrive.
Relative humidity below 30% can be just as damaging. It can lead to an increase in cold and flu viruses, irritated skin and respiratory tract, cracked ceilings, separated wood floors, etc.
Can I open the door and window while the dehumidifier is running?
It is not recommended to open doors and windows while the dehumidifier is running. Dehumidifiers work in the same way as air conditioners. It is also necessary to close doors and windows when the air conditioner is on. If the doors and windows are open, the dehumidification effect will not be sufficient.
How long will it take to get the humidity under control?
If the dehumidifier has a high enough output for the area in which it is operating and there are no specific humidity problems, the dehumidifier will usually reduce the humidity to the desired level within a few days to a week.
This schedule does not apply if the room has been flooded. In this case, one or more dehumidifiers will be required, which may be supplemented by other special equipment where appropriate. This work is usually done by water damage specialists.
