TrueIPL® technology
Epilation is performed using Intense Pulsed Light. The whole process is painless and will keep your skin smooth for months.
Epilators using TrueIPL® technology emit gentle pulses of light in the wavelength range from 510 to 1100 nm to below the skin surface. This targets the melanin in the hair follicle to help break the cycle of hair growth. Light energy is absorbed by the melanin, converting it to heat energy that disables the hair follicle, leading to the hair falling out.
Hair is only suitable for light treatment during the growth phase, repeated treatments are needed to keep the skin smooth. With regular use, light energy helps prevent unwanted hairs from reaching the surface of the skin and regrowing.
Who can use IPL epilators?
TrueLife IPL epilators work effectively and safely on a variety of skin tones. In general, IPL epilators are not recommended for dark skin and light or red hair.
To determine if an IPL epilator is right for you, use the Fitzpatrick scale, which distinguishes 6 degrees of skin colour.
Epilation plan
First weeks
During the first weeks of use, hair growth will still be visible. These are likely to be hairs that were not in their growth phase during treatment when IPL technology is most effective.
3rd to 6th week of use
You should already see a reduction in hair growth. However, many hairs still may not have been treated at their growth stage. It is important to continue weekly treatment.
After 12 weeks of use
After completing the 12-week plan, you should already notice a significant reduction in hair in the treated area. Any remaining hairs should be finer and lighter.
Maintenance
Continued monthly treatment or treatments as needed should keep your skin hair-free.
Painless SensCool® technology
TrueLife BELLE IPL epilators use SensCool® technology.
TrueIPL® technology creates light pulses that heat the hair follicle. This disables the follicle leading to the hair falling out. However, this process can cause discomfort for certain skin types.
SensCool® technology means that even those with sensitive skin need not worry. SensCool® monitors the entire epilation process and alerts you if the device is being used incorrectly. No need to check the temperature of the device or worry about your eyesight thanks to the eye protection sensor.
Plus, the TrueLife BELLE IPL E5 has an integrated cooling system that instantly cools and soothes the skin. This ensures the entire hair removal process is even more painless.
Long-lasting results

What is IPL technology and how does it work?
Epilation is performed using Intense Pulsed Light (IPL). It is a painless method that keeps the skin smooth for up to several months.
The IPL epilator emits gentle pulses of light absorbed into the skin, where it targets the melanin in the hair follicle to help break the cycle of hair growth. Light energy is absorbed by the melanin, converting it to heat energy that disables the hair follicle, leading to the hair falling out.
Is IPL technology painful?
In clinical trials, using appropriate settings based on skin tone and hair colour, the treatment was not reported as painful. Some women in the trials experienced warmth, tingling or itching, which in most cases resolved within a few minutes or an hour at most. Before using the epilator, test your skin following the instructions below.
- Choose an area of skin close to the area you want to epilate.
- Switch on the device and select level 1.
- Place the device on the skin and emit a light pulse using the button. Emit two flashes in this way, over an area equivalent to two epilation windows.
- Increase the setting by one level and repeat the flashes at other locations. Repeat the process, increasing the levels until you reach a point that you experience discomfort, and end the test. The device should subsequently be used for hair removal at the last level you were comfortable with.
- After the test, wait 24 hours and check if there is any reaction on the skin. If the skin looks normal, you can proceed with the first epilation. A skin test should be performed on all areas you are going to treat.

Is it safe to use an IPL epilator?
If you are worried about IPL hair removal, there is no harm in contacting a dermatologist. They will examine your skin and more precisely determine whether IPL hair removal is suitable for you. There are cases where IPL hair removal is not recommended at all. This may include people with eczema or very sensitive skin, people with a high incidence of varicose veins or small red veins and of course when pregnant or breastfeeding. There are more contraindications which can be found in the instructions.
When is the best time for epilation?
Interest in buying an IPL epilator is often at its height in the summer, when women want to have smooth skin. But IPL treatment should definitely not be done in summer. The skin should be exposed to as little sunlight as possible during the treatment. Therefore, IPL epilation should be performed well in advance, preferably during the winter in preparation for summer time.
Can men use it?
All TrueLife IPL epilators are suitable for male skin.
Most IPL epilators are developed specifically for use on women's skin but some are designed for men as well. Male and female hair is different so please follow the recommendations in the manual.
What if I have a lot of freckles or tattoos?
Specific contraindications are listed In the instructions for each individual IPL epilator. In the case of freckles and tattoos, these areas should be avoided. This is because intense pulsed light is most attracted to dark pigment and the more IPL light penetrates the skin, the more irritated it becomes. As a result you may experience a burning sensation during epilation. Plus exposing skin with freckles to radiation is simply not healthy.
Are TrueLife IPL epilators suitable for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding?
IPL epilators should not be used during pregnancy or whilst breastfeeding. We recommend that you do not use any hair removal method that works on the basis of light/light pulses during these periods.
Can IPL epilators cause health problems or infertility?
This technology is not new and has been on the market for more than 25 years. If you follow the instructions, there is nothing to worry about. IPL epilators are not harmful to health, so you don’t need to be worried about cancer or infertility.
